Description
A playful Kererū necklace cleverly cast in sterling silver from an original Tania Mallow carving, finished with sterling silver chain and clasp.
The Kererū (Dove or wood pigeon) is one of largest native birds in New Zealand. Their beautiful shimmery green and purple feathers are contrasted by their creamy white chests. As fruit eaters they are vital to the pollination of native New Zealand plants. Often depicted in art they are similarly created in Tania’s signature etched / illustrative style of jewellery making. The detail in this Kererū is difficult to capture in photography. His commanding presence is shown in Tania’s beautifully carved profile and his chest is textured in a way that appears white due to the light shimmering off Tania’s fine etching.
The bird range has a beautiful weighty feel. Like many of Tania Mallow’s other pieces they are created with comfort and quality at the forefront. Materials are not spared on her jewellery and wearing them feels amazing. This necklace is enhanced by a skillful oxidization technique which brings the carved lines to life.
