The funding provided for one of our native bird nursery team member's wages contributed to the successful raising of hundreds of orphaned native chicks at BirdCare Aotearoa.A few examples of native chicks which were raised by our dedicated team are tūī, ruru/moreporks, kererū/NZ (wood) pigeons, kōtare/kingfishers, pīwakawaka/fantails, pipiwharauroa/shining cuckoo, tahou/silvereyes, riroriro/grey warblers, kahu/swamp harrrier (hawk), moho pereru/banded rail and various seabirds and shorebirds such as penguins, terns, shags, pied stilts, herons, and many native ducklings and cygnets.
This wonderful funding helped BirdCare Aotearoa to support the community and save the lives of orphaned taonga birds, it is greatly appreciated!
