Contact

Sick or injured native birds can be brought straight to our centre during opening hours of 10am-2pm daily.

You do not need to call us first. You are welcome to call but we may not be able to answer the phone during busy periods.

Which birds do we accept?

We accept native wild birds (list  here).

All native birds are treated and rehabilitated for release wherever possible. Birds are euthanised only if there is no other option, and only as a last resort.

We do not accept:

  • Roosters and chickens – please contact The Animal Sanctuary for advice.
  • Pet birds – if you find a lost or abandoned pet bird, please contact your nearest SPCA centre.

After-hours emergencies

If a native bird requires urgent veterinary attention outside of our opening hours, we recommend contacting your local or emergency veterinary clinic.

If you find any seabirds or endangered species outside of opening hours, and need advice, please contact DOC 0800 362 468 for help.

Please see our FAQs for more information.
